Consulting Engineers SA (CESA) said on Thursday (4th of Feb) that due to rapid urbanisation and infrastructure constraints, intervention was required to prevent serious water shortages in Johannesburg by 2019 and South Africa as a whole by 2025.

Here at Water Solutions we’ve been saying for some time that the impending water crises in this country is going to make our Eskom problems look like a simple hicup. Anthony Turton, the CSIR researcher, who was gagged last year from presenting his findings on South Africa’s pending water crises said, “…do we wish to avert the water crisis now before it happens or are we to be content with the status quo, happy to deal with it after it has been thrust upon us, like the electricity crisis was?”

Using the grey water from your home to water the garden or even flush the loo has an appreciable impact on both the environment and your water bill, but collecting and using your own water through rain water harvesting, is the “big daddy” of water conservation and your insurance policy against short term water outages….
